Annual Events
Founder’s Day Festival
When: June (3-day celebration)
Where: Downtown Caledonia
A three-day community event held in downtown Caledonia. Thursday evening features the Founder's Day Variety Show at the high school performing arts center. Friday includes the Cheeseburger Drive-Thru at the fairgrounds, hosted by the American Dairy Association.
Saturday activities include the annual 5K Run/Walk, Randy Klinski Memorial Car Show with cars, trucks, tractors, and motorcycles, and children's activities at Gazebo Park with magic shows, games, and entertainment. The Founder's Day Parade takes place at 4 p.m., followed by live music performances. Other activities include bean bag tournaments, firemen demonstrations, and local band performances.
Houston County Fair
When: August
Where: Houston County Fairgrounds, Caledonia
Known as the largest rural county fair in Minnesota, this week-long celebration truly embodies the motto "Where Town & Country Meet." The fair features traditional 4-H exhibitions, livestock shows, farming demonstrations, and agricultural displays that showcase the region's agricultural heritage.
Visitors can enjoy midway carnival rides, games, bandstand entertainment with live music performances, food vendors, and family-friendly competitions. From bull-riding to craft exhibits, the fair offers authentic rural entertainment that brings together town and country communities for one of the summer's biggest celebrations.
Fall Family Fun Fest
When: October (MEA weekend - typically 3rd weekend)
Where: Various locations throughout Caledonia
This spectacular three-day fall festival celebrates Caledonia's designation as the Wild Turkey Capital of Minnesota. The highlight is the hot air balloon rally featuring up to 10 colorful balloons from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and South Dakota launching from the field behind Caledonia High School at 4:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday evenings, and 7:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday mornings (weather permitting).
Festival activities include outdoor family adventures designed to encourage healthy outdoor recreation, children's activities at the City Auditorium with hot dog lunch, gift basket drawings, pumpkin decorating, face painting, storytelling, various games, and Mainspring’s annual Vintage and Makers Market. The event also features "Scare at the Fair" haunted barn attractions at the Houston County Fairgrounds for those seeking Halloween thrills.
Winter Wonderland Celebration
When: First weekend in December
Where: Downtown Caledonia
Ring in the holiday season with this winter celebration. The weekend kicks off with a festive Christmas parade through Downtown Caledonia on Friday night. Saturday features "Breakfast with Santa" where families can enjoy a meal and photos with St. Nick, plus an "Old Fashioned Christmas" Open House at the Houston County Historical Society, showcasing the area's holiday traditions and history.
Music in the Park
When: June through early August
Where: Various park locations
Free outdoor concerts throughout the summer featuring local and regional musicians. Evening performances include various music genres and provide community entertainment in Caledonia's parks.
